“In a good relationship, people get angry, but in a very different way. The Marriage Masters see a problem a bit like a soccer ball. They kick it around. It’s “our” problem”.
John M. Gottman

Couple psychotherapy is about supporting a couple, married or not, through what might be a difficult time in their relationship. Again an integrative approach is adopted for couple clients drawing on evidence based theories, tools and techniques in order to support the couple along this journey. While a couple often presents to therapy due to the immediacy of a problem or conflict in their relationship , it is important to note that the goal of couple psychotherapy is to , where appropriate, support the couple in changing aspects of their relationship, learn new skills for use within the relationship, make personal changes and improve communication to order to develop a loving, supportive and mutually fulfilling relationship.

Both parties must be willing and motivated to particpate in these sessions.

This appointment must be held with the couple.  Couple psychotherapy can be short term or longer term. A couple may need this support for only a few sessions to help with a crisis, or a couple may need support for several months, particularly if the relationship has significantly deteriorated.
